It's cold out there!!

Hello!  Here are some of our students who are ready for the snow and cold!  Please be sure to send your students with appropriate winter gear.  We go outside for recess if the windchill is zero degrees or above.  Boots are very important for kids to wear everyday.  It keeps their feet warm and our classroom clean.
We've been reading different versions of The Three Little Pigs.  We've read The Three Little Javelinas and The True Story of the Three Little Pigs.  After we read each story we discuss what is the same and what is different about each story.  We have a few more versions to read!
In math we finished our place value unit and will be moving on to adding two and three digit numbers.  We've already been practicing this with our Base Ten Bank every day.  Ask your child what the Base Ten Bank is!
Please remember that our Oral Language Speeches are this Friday.
Have a great week!

SNOW!!

Yes, it's finally happened.  We had snow:)  The students were VERY excited to get out and play in it, roll in it, be silly in it, throw it, etc....  Please remember to send your child with snowpants and boots. This will keep them warm and allow them to play all the activities at recess.  Students also need a separate pair of shoes for them to wear inside only.  It is totally fine if this is the pair of gym shoes they keep at school.
Speaking of exciting, we are starting our new rocks and minerals unit!!  Mr. Brown came in and shared his replica of a "Super Croc" tooth.  He also shared many fossils with us that we had a chance to touch and examine closely.  We had a great time! Later, we saw a video about the super croc and read and wrote about it.  This was a great way to start our rocks and minerals unit!  We went on to discuss  the layers of the Earth and made a model showing them.
In reading we are continuing with our Daily Five pattern.  The students are doing an excellent job remembering the different routines for the different parts of Daily Five: Read to Self, Read to Someone, Listen to Reading, Work on Writing, and Work Work.  I am so pleased with the reading growth that I see in the students.  Their love of reading is fun to share with them too!
In math we are continuing our work on place value.  We are working on numbers to 1,000!!  The kids are doing an impressive job working with these higher numbers.  Ask your child about our Base Ten Bank at school!  It is part of our daily routine now in math.
***We are continuing to collect box tops in our classroom.  We are having a contest right now; please get any boxtops in by the first week of February!  Thank you!!

Happy New Year!!

We had a fantastic Winter Party!
We made decorations out of foam and glitter.
Many thanks to Mrs. Vrabel for planning and preparing for the party!  Thank you to Mrs. Grohovac, Mrs. Hill and Mrs. Murray for helping with the party.

We played two toss games and decorated snowman melting cookies.  We got to eat our creations!
We made an awesome sock snowman!
The next day we had our Read-a-thon.  We read with partners and read on our own.  We listened to reading and we had yummy snacks.  It was a great day!

We also made bookmarks that Mrs. Tussing gave us!
